MY TERM 3 SCIENCE ACE;)
HI!!!THIS IS MY ACE ABOUT THE BIG BANG.ENJOY
The Big Bang theory is an idea of what happened at the start of our universe, during and after that moment but it may be wrong as after all, its only a theory. Discoveries in astronomy and physics have shown that our universe definitely have a beginning like all life have. Before that, there was completely nothing; during and after that moment our universe is created. So, lets move on and find out more
Firstly , the universe must have a beginning.
Secondly, galaxies are moving away from us at speeds which are proportional to their distance. This is called "Hubble's Law," named after Edwin Hubble (1889-1953) who discovered this fact in 1929 which supports the expansion of the universe and suggests that the universe was once very dense.
Thirdly, if the universe was extremely hot at the beginning as the Big Bang suggests, we should be able to find some evidence of this heat. In 1965, Radio astronomers Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson discovered a 2.725 degree Kelvin Cosmic Microwave Background radiation which spread the universe.
But there are many other evidence , however, the ones I mentioned above are the most popular among people, hence lets explore more.
Is the Big Bang theory the only evidence? Nope , it's just the most popular one. Astrophysicist George F. R. Ellis once said: "People need to be aware that there is a range of models that could explain the observations. In my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong in that. What I want to say is the fact that we are using philosophical criteria in choosing our models. A lot of cosmology tries to hide that." 7 years ago, Physicist Robert Gentry presented an alternative to the BIG BANG theory, which also supports the evidences in the previous slide. Dr. Gentry claimed that the standard Big Bang model is founded upon a faulty paradigm which he claims is inconsistent with the empirical data. He chooses to base his model on Einstein's static-space-time paradigm which he claims to be the "real cosmic Rosetta." Gentry has published several papers outlining what he considers to be serious flaws in the standard Big Bang model. However, people are still more comfortable with the BIG BANG theory and not his.
You may be wondering what is static space-time…well , in general relatively, a space-time is said to be static if it admits a global, non-vanishing, time like killing vector fieldK which is irrotational, i.e., whose orthogonal distribution is involutive. Thus a static space-time is a stationary space-time answering this ability to be integrated condition. These space-time form one of the simplest classes of Lorentzian manifolds.
Every static space-time looks like a regular static space-time which is a Lorentzian warped product R S with a metric of the form g[(t,x)] = − β(x)dt2 + gS[x], where R is the real line, gS is a (positive definite) metric and β is a positive function on the Riemannian manifold S.
In such a local coordinate representation the Killing field K may be identified with and S, the manifold of K-trajectories, may be treated as the immediate 3-space of stationary observers. If λ is the square of the norm of the Killing vector field, λ = g(K,K), both λ and gS are independent of time. It is from the latter fact that a static space-time obtains its name, as the geometry of the space-like slice S doesn't change over time.
Any discussion of the Big Bang theory would be incomplete without asking the question, what about God? This is because cosmogony is an area where science and theology meet. Creation was a supernatural event. This fact brings the question: is there anything else which exists outside of the natural realm? Specifically, is there a master Architect out there? We know that this universe had a beginning. Was God the "First Cause"?However till today, no one has an answer for this and this question is still a mystery. However, this has led to many religions and believes such as some Chinese believing that a goddess called nu wa who created the universe and mankind while having Christians believing that it is GOD who build the universe which can be read from GENESIS 1:1 from the bible.
There are many misconceptions surrounding the Big Bang theory. For example, people tend to thing that BIG BANG is a giant explosion. Experts however say that there was no explosion while it is an expansion. Rather than imagining a balloon popping and releasing its contents, imagine a balloon expanding.
Another misconception is that we tend to image that big bang happened in space. According to the many experts however, space didn't exist prior to the Big Bang and it is very hard to imagine how the Big Bang occurred
An important feature of the Big Bang space-time is the presence of horizon. Since the Universe has a finite age, and light travels at a finite speed, there may be events in the past whose light has not had time to reach us. This places a limit or a past horizon on the most distant objects that can be observed. Conversely, because space is expanding, and more distant objects are receding faster, light emitted by us today may never "catch up" to very far objects. This defines a future horizon, which limits the events in the future that we will be able to influence. Interesting isn't it??
- The universe is 13.7 billion years old - All the matter in the universe used to be very close together (very dense)
- The universe used to be a very uniform cloud of energy/mass despite it being very clumpy today
- The expansion of space is accelerating
- In the beginning the universe was so hot all the universal forces (gravitation, electromagnetism, etc.) were one force
-The accelerating expansion of the universe will one day spread galaxies so far apart we will not be able to see them because the light leaving them will constantly have new space created in front of it
